Christmas 2010

I know it has been some time since I have been on here. But, as a resolution, I want tkeep my blog updated, even if they are brief blurbs.
Christmas.I love this time of year. This my favorite time of year. I love CHristmas, it is such a joyous time of year. But, most importantly, i love the Reason for the Season.
But I haven't been truly enjoying it. I have been so sad. I don't know the source of this feel. I jus pray that God helps me out of it. I so desperately, want to savor this time, I went out with a good friend of mine, Paula S. I haven't seen Paula in over a year. I that time, Paula had a baby girl. I am so happy for, she is such a sweet girl. In true fashionista style, I had to get something nice for baby Isabella.

This gorgeous dress is what I purchased at Macys.

I lovd it the moment I saw it. Actually my mome eyed it first. She has a true eye for fashion. But I knew I had to have it. So I boxed it up to give Paula for our get together. When she opend the box, she started to tear up, we both stood there and cried. I was such an emotional moment. I always felt like I had a bond with Paula, and despite a year long lapse, we met and chatted like it was our regular weekly get together. So when we parted to go home, we said we will start meeting on a monthly basis. I can't wait. Paula is such a great girl, and she has an awesome family.

So, I am planning to do a few things to keep me out of the winter blues.

First, I wamt to take my goddaughter Chloe' out to see Wintuk.

I especially want to go because, this is there final season, and I haven't gone yet.

I am also, planning a friends' baby shower. I have recently go into designing events. I never thought I had a creative bone in my body. It's something I truly have a heart for. Over the Christmas break. I am going to work on onesie, to put on a clothesline. I am going to get fabric letters and sew them on the onesie. I don't know how I am going to do, but I want to try it out.

Back from Jamaica, Mon!

Jamaica was awesome. I spent two weeks and a boat load of money. But is it was well worth it. I got to spend time and bond with my little cousin. I attended my family reunion. I met family from Jamaica, the US, Canada, and the UK. There some relatives that were missing. But I would have loved to share so time with some of my UK family.

I spent three great days at the RIU Ocho Rios That was truly a nice little break. I had a suite to myself that had a huge bed. I have to admit it was a little spooky at night, especially when my room key wouldn't open. I walked to the other side of the property at least three times the first night to get a room key that worked. NOT CUTE!!! But the whirlpool bath made up for it the next morning.

Because of the upgrade to a suite, I had exclusive access to a 5-star Japanese Restaurant. The food was great. But we had checked out the buffet with the Jamaican theme night that my cousin wanted to try. We were stuffed, but we made our reservation. We tried to eat some of the food. My stomach never hurt so bad.

Jam Packed Weekend - Day UNO

So, alot went on this past weekend.

I went to a friends' wedding at the Palm House; a once in a lifetime experience. It was superb! After leaving there at midnight, I met up with my friend Lex 9 arounf 2:30am, where i gave her a gift bag chuck full of stuff for my birthday getaway.

I used a small straw beach bag and filled with goodies: including a neck pillow and eye mask (to catch up on sleep, that we didn’t get the night before) a aluminum water bottle and a hoodie that had “Shakira and Alexis take Miami: sprawled across the hood of it.

So Saturday morning we woke up and went to LaGuardia airport and check-in for our flight to Miami. We spent the hours before our departure at the AA Admiral Lounge, courteous of my AMEX card, where we had breakfast.

We slept through our flight and headed to the hotel, we stayed at the Ritz Carlton South Beach. Despite a complication with AMEX Vacation, RC processed our reservation, took our bags and offered us a discount for lunch. We gladly accepted Hannah, a RC manager, offer and enjoyed our lunch poolside at their restaurant. The weather was beautiful. The sun was gorgeous and the sky was blue, and we had the rest of the day to enjoy it. Or so we thought, we checked to see if our room was slean which it was. When we got to the room, it was so nicely decked out. We unpacked our bags and took a snooze. A snooze until……. EIGHT P.M.

We couldn’t believe it. We went down to concierge and made a reservation at Mr. Chow’s. There food was great. It was so busy when we got there. We found out that it was Swim Fashion Week and there was so many models and celebrities there, despite the heavy rains. The streets were flooded and a lot of traffic that night, but the sidewalk was overflowing with people that night

Renewal in the Springtime

Hey, long time no blog. I life has been busy, busy the past few months.

April
I finally attended the Tribeca Film Festival in April (and early May) with my good friend Lauren. We had so much fun. Awesome!

Received an (unexpected) invitation to attend a friend's wedding on the 16th of July. The wedding ceremony is in the city and the reception is at the PALM HOUSE at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. I can't believe it the Palm House! Thr grounds will be open exclusively to us for the reception.

May
I attended the Women of NY Foundation Annual Breakfast, hosted by Solidad O'Brien and honoring Eileen Fischer and Mary J. Blidge. I also attended the Women of NY Foundation event at Bloomingdales, which was also very nice.

My parents had their 30th Anniversary and my father's 65th Birthday. I also help my good friend throw her mom a bridal shower. I went so well.

I lost my Blackberry! I have been out of reach of everybody. [I miss my PA (personal assistant) Mr. 8900, Jorge] I refuse to buy a new one. I will find my

June
I booked my flight for Jamaica, to attend my family reunion. Can't wait!

I went to my friend, Alexis, cousin's 30th surprise party. I was really honored that my friend's aunt invited me. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.

I booked my trip for my 29th Birthday Yay! I can't wait. Miami baby! The Palm House then off to Miami.

July
I was suppose to help a friend Vicky with her first baby shower. But I still helped out before I left to Florida.

I had to go to Tampa to see my gradfather, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The trip was so bittersweet. It was a great opportunity to spend time with my family and hear new family stories. But it was so sad because the patriarch of the family won't be around for many more of these visits. I had a great roadtrip with my parent, we had good quality time.

Next up ....

I am planning to take my goddaughter, Chloe' Autumn, and my other goddaughter Michelle Nichole, to Sesame place and the Crayola Factory in PA. Those girls are a BLAST!

I have to organize my Miami trip and hopefully attend a girlfriend's getaway at the end of August. ( That's four vacay's this summer. I did go on vacation or really celebrate my birthday last summer. So I guess I am making up for last year.)

First Day of a Brand New Life

Well I have officially joined the blogging world. My name is Shakira, and I am officially a blogger. Corny I know but I am a corny kind of girl. I am klutzy too but I digress.

I have always wanted my own blog. This will be a great way to keep my long distance friends in the loop of my jam-packed ordinary life. I know you’re wondering “A Walk in Progress” is that a typo, what....was “A Work In Progress” already taken? No, the meaning behind the title is regarding my walk with God.; my walk with God is a constant work in progress. He is constantly molding me into the women he wants me to be; a walk of HUMILITY.

This is the beginning of a new chapter in my life, I am going to truly appreciate my days as a twenty- something. My 29th birthday is on the horizon, and I want to celebrate this birthday with a bang before the really “Big Bang”. Most of my friends are turning 30 this year. I just threw one of my best friends a birthday brunch. She loved it. I am really glad everyone enjoyed it, because I don’t remember a thing. Everything is hazy and all I remember is boo-hoo crying. All I remember is standing up and wanting to say some closing remarks. I had a few points that I wanted to say, but they all went out my head when I started balling. I ‘m talking about to the point where I had snot coming out my nose (sorry for the graphic detail) and my poor friend Lecia (the birthday girl)had to get up and console me.

On the way to the Brunch, Lecia and I were talking about how God has been a strong hold throughout our lives and how important it was to keep the faith, which was great, that was part of the theme of the party. I guess all the emotions from our conversation just overwhelmed me when I got up to speak to all of our friends.

I have a few other friends that are turning 30 in the later half 2010. I am supposed to be going on a cruise with Shelly, a friend from college. Another college friend Morgan, want to go to Destin, Florida, in September, which from the photos seem a great vacation spot. It’s going to be a busy summer catching up with my girlfriends.

Destin looks like a great hotspot. I never heard of it. I searched and here are some pics:

Now this waterfront property; until hurricane season.

Just Beautiful!

Well have a beautiful sunset,

Luvins,
